Latimer Hinks branches out with charity support
Latimer Hinks has pledged its support for an exciting environmental project that is creating a new woodland area for the region.
Working with the County Durham Foundation, the law firm has donated 1,000 to The Tees Forest to allow the group that oversees the forest to buy 2,000 trees, canes and rabbit guards.
The Tees Forest is part of the North East Community Forests group that is working in a newly-created woodland area of Darlington, which is aimed at improving the environment and encouraging more people to use the outdoors for education and enjoyment.
Trees are being planted to celebrate the centenary of the Scouting movement and local scout groups from across Darlington will help with the design and planting of the area, part of Merrybent Community Woodland. The area planted will be known as Scouts Wood. Anne Elliott, partner at Latimer Hinks said: Latimer Hinks is proud to be involved in this exciting and worthwhile community project. Scouts Wood will improve the local area and provide a recreational space for many years to come.
It will be very rewarding for the young people involved, who will be able to take ownership of the distinct area they have helped to plant. The new woodland will not only benefit the area aesthetically but will also encourage the local community to participate in outdoor activities.
Debbie Scott from The Tees Forest said: Without the support of local businesses, like Latimer Hinks, we would not be able to achieve our aims. The preservation and creation of woodland for the benefit and the use of the public is important both environmentally and in promoting a healthy lifestyle. Scouts Wood will engage around 200 local young people in its creation and will give the community access to the countryside as a place of recreation, exercise and education.
