Environmental, Social, and Governance
The approach to ESG at Latimer Hinks reflects our belief that we have a responsibility to our community. As a long-standing Darlington business we are committed to recognising and responding to the needs of our environment, community and employees
We support charitable causes and community activities that promote diversity, tackle social isolation, support education and encourage sustainability.
We help charities both by donations from the Latimer Hinks Ingenious Fund (which is held as part of County Durham Community Fund) and through fund-raising activities organised by our team.
Here are a few examples:
St Teresa’s Hospice
We actively participate in the Hospice’s fundraising activities throughout the year including the annual quiz, moonlight walk and donating an amount for each digital Latimer Hinks Christmas card opened.
In 2017 we organised a charity ball to support St Teresa’s Hospice and smaller local charities in memory of our much loved friend and colleague Helen Thomas who sadly passed away from cancer aged only 33. Helen’s memory lives on within the firm and our support of the charity is undertaken in no small part due to the spirit and strength shown by our fabulous colleague.
Darlington Employers Environment Partnership (DEEP)
We’re members of the Darlington Employers Environment Partnership (DEEP) which is a collaboration of likeminded local businesses committed to working together to generate more sustainable outcomes from products, services, and approaches.
We’ve committed to getting to Net Zero by 2050 — but that doesn’t mean we’re waiting around.
💡 Last year (2025), we made a 5% reduction, taking us down to 100.67 tCO2e.
We’ve dramatically improved the efficiency of our lighting, heating and insulation through a comprehensive office refurbishment and we’ve rolled out a successful EV scheme for employees. Bring on the electric commute!
Life Admin Initiative
In 2026 we launched a staff wellbeing a personal development programme – “Life Admin”. To date we’ve delivered a firm-wide survey to capture thoughts from employees as to what might be of interest and subsequently run a webinar on “The Science of Sleep” and “Time Management” and more planned for the future. Feedback to date has been very positive but we’re far from complacent. There’s a great deal more we can do for our wonderful colleagues.
The 700 Club
This year (2026) we will be the primary sponsor of the inaugural 700 Club Charity Ball. The charity provides safe accommodation and tailored support for people who are homeless or at risk of losing their home. What we love about this organisation is their holistic approach, recognising that homelessness is often the visible symptom of deeper challenges. Turning a newly refurbished or built construction into a home takes on average £10,000 per family, the charity ball aims to meet the needs of families in kitting out the dozens of new homes planned over the next 12 months.
Darlington & Bishop Auckland MRI Scanner Appeal
We wanted to support an appeal which was relevant to and would impact upon everyone in the area, specifically our employees, our clients and their families. The MRI Scanner Appeal was launched to support provision for Darlington Memorial Hospital and Bishop Auckland Hospital of new scanning technology to help both patients and medical staff. The two year appeal raised over £750,000 from local businesses and residents. Latimer Hinks donated over £11,500 to the Appeal.
